Not only is this concert happening in the amazing space of Leeds Left Bank, pictured above ( occuping the former St Margaret of Antioch Anglican church) but they are also selling “local samosas”!

My Core of the Coalman performance will be joined by Sophie Cooper.  We are performing a new semi-improvised electo-acoustic piece for voices, trombone, viola, and electronics.  See you there!

Here is a video of something related, an almost-accidental byproduct of this process:

Here are the “official details”:

Ten Hours of Drone will present nine artists to perform in Left Bank for one hour each, with the final hour to be a collaborative piece involving all nine artists together.

In the interest of the collaborative spirit of the event, each artist will overlap the next/previous during the first/last five minutes of the hour.

This event will be a benefit for the continuing good work done by Left Bank, all proceeds by donations going to Left Bank.

Confirmed artists and info below –

Legion of Swine

– works with drones, field recordings and loops. Speech fragments are taken from news reels, reconstructed to make samples for decomposing social phenomena, to make them, visible, audible. Where Public Enemy understood themselves as Black CNN, LEGION OF SWINE can be understood as a Live Noise Blog, that formulates the discomforts and isolation that construct society. The collapsing of relations and the violence that forces this unease is put into sound as well as the reflection of the negativity these conditions create. The times of agitprop punk are long gone — the critic and the negation of hegemonic relations become noise, distortion, toxic in LEGION OF SWINE. No instruction, but cracks open up and traces are set — Fight the power, somehow!

Rees Archibald – will feature buzzing. At high frequencies. Generated by feedback loops through physical objects and those objects vibrating to generate sound. Said sound will then be modulated by physical contact. Lay on hands.

Kingsley Ash – The countryside is seen as a place of tranquility, somewhere to get away from the constant hum of the city. But I’ve been to the countryside and it can be a noisy place. The fields are worked on an industrial scale to feed our cities, the ground is pulled open to extract raw materials required for economic expansion, the skies are filled with jets training for any number of current or future conflicts. Techniques used to ‘manage’ the land are more brutal than any city riot: shooting, burning, capturing. Though listen carefully and there are more ‘acceptable’ noises too – rustling leaves, squabbling crows, a trickling stream, a distant lawnmower. In this work I’ll be using field recordings taken from around rural North Yorkshire, as well as found sounds and electronics to explore the conflict and contrast between unacceptable and acceptable. Between natural and the man-made. Between organic and inorganic. Between noise and not-noise.

Orlando Ferguson – Taking the name of a nineteenth century zealot, Orlando Ferguson exist to channel the spirits latent in every environment. Unseasonable weather has been known to occur in response. Hands Held High.

Drones 4u – Drones 4u was a large independent mobile drone retailer in the United Kingdom. It was part of the 4u Group based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Since opening in 1996, it had expanded to over 600 stores throughout the United Kingdom. On 14 September 2014, after EE, Vodafone, Orange & O2, the company’s final remaining suppliers, ended their contracts, it was announced that the company was to enter administration.[1][2] The company entered administration on 15 September 2014 with PricewaterhouseCoopers appointed as administrators.[3]

Unstable Journey – Leeds 4-piece rock botherers play their new hit ‘Monochord Chuggernaut (Fuck Off Gideon)’. In hats.

Urban Exploration – an experimental music and art collective from Leeds who make ambient techno and noise amongst other things. Analogue synths, tape echo and field recordings will probably be used in the creation of some improvised soundscape or other.

Paul Priest – Bassy noise maker of Sloth Hammer and other bands. Expect some discordant, filthy, doom laden, massively vibrating tones, with extra layers of sound darting in from various places… and whisky. Lots of whisky.

Core of the Coalman – Jorge Boehringer’s solo project Core of the Coalman presents continuity and discontinuity for viola, voice, and circuits squatting the border zone between formed and unformed. The physicality of sound is emphasized through ambiguities and patterns unfolding into time. Synesthetic relationships between ear, mind, and environment are encouraged, after all, they work for me.

Thanks to all folk who offered to participate – should any of the above become unavailable, I’ll be in touch. I have a list of you all.

Attenders of all ages are welcome to find their own drone space in the venue. Seats are provided and attenders are encouraged to bring along roll mats, sleeping bags, etc, as they deem necessary and find their own drone space(s) for full appreciation.

There will also be synthesisers and headphones for kids and others to try out their own drones.

Bar will be open and local samosas will be on sale.
