Kneeling Coats at Poetry etc: ‘On Process’ Wednesday

Poetry etc. ‘On Process’

Wednesday at 7 PM – 10 PM

0–7° Light Rain

Northern Quarter, Huddersfield

28 – 30 Wood Street, HD11DU Huddersfield

We are delighted to be invited to play at this event, which is a participatory exploration of process in poetry.  Please come hang out, listen, write, whatever/// you are not required to do anything, but you can do something if you feel like it, same as it always was/is.

The 4th Poetry etc. evening will examine PROCESS…

Where does a poem come from? How exactly is it made? What happens to the scraps of writing left in hidden notebooks? What are our process habits? Can we recognise/ challenge them?

Looking at visual artists such as Richard Serra, Jackson Pollock and John Hilliard & the techniques of editing used by writers such as Raymond Carver and Gordon Lish, we will examine what process means in creation, where ideas come from and why we come back to certain themes/ subjects, how a knowledge of our habits can be useful to recognise and to challenge – as usual, using the night to offer a new way of seeing our work.

The workshop part of the evening will take place between 7-8.30pm (including a break in between). During this section, we will also have a performance by the wonderful Kneeling Coats!

8.45-10pm will be the open mic section – Open to all kinds of performance BUT with an emphasis on words!
