Come to the Magic City, Todmorden, Sunday AFTERNOON the 16th of December for a 5pm concert at THE MAGIC CITY , and extraordinary oasis of vinyl, books, cake and clothing in the Calder Valley! 11 Halifax Road, Todmorden OL14 5AG to be very specific).
There will be three solo sets. One will be by me, Core of the Coalman (playing Concertmate 7000, a guitar (of all things) and some …other…stuff, one by Chris Ruffoni…electonically, and who has stated that it will be both wonky and insistent, and a brand new solo performance from Jo Kennedy!!!! The informational deluge begins below, in smaller type and a faceblock event link follows should you wish to:
((((To celebrate and accelerate the onset of the most lucrative of festive seasons at our shop (we hope!) we’re having a mid-December show at the Magic City, featuring the cream of Huddersfield’s outsider experimental music scene – the excellent Core of the Coalman and Chris Ruffoni – alongside Todmorden’s own Jo Kennedy. Donations gratefully received for the artists. Please send us a message to reserve your place(s) as space is extremely limited.))))
An opposition to description, to analytical knowledge, links Core of the Coalman to the unfolding process of attention; the performativity whereby the everyday is produced through the act of attention; a reorientation, the change in scale that does not change the phenomenon but makes it perceptible; the connection with a non-psychological, anonymous experience of self; the importance of the non-quantizable and subjective flow of time; the simple statement “there is….” producing performative affect; the link to radical naivete and the deictic language of erotic verification; the connection with desire and habitability; the link via the senses to the body’s spatial orientation or propriopercetion. The frames are by no means equally relevant. Also, in addition to texts largely stolen, sometimes viola, lately concertmate 7000, feedback immanent, yodel triggers possible.
Chris Ruffoni provides radiophonic psychedelia – wonky insistent loops cut through with atonal soul. Debut tape released on Them There Records in November.
Jo Kennedy is a Todmorden based artist working with found sounds and objects, interested in exploring sonic transitions from anthrophony to biophony.
